This email will be your only notification. APPLICATION FORMAT INFORMATION: This grant is being offered as a pilot for Illinois State Library online grant application. The online grant application is in its final stage of development. An email will be sent when the online version of the application is available. Until the online version is available, a PDF version of the application will be available on our website, <> At this time, we hope you will begin working on developing partnerships and your proposal. If you find the PDF at the web site, you may print this document, the cover page and the instructions prior to the grant information session for note taking purposes. RECAP OF FY10 PENNY SEVERNS CHANGES The Penny Severns' Summer Family Literacy grant offering is: * a program designed to assist libraries to recruit low-literate and limited English proficient families as the target audience, and to develop reading related, need-based library programs, events or activities involving low-literate and/or limited English proficient families. Programming must include the following components: reading enrichment for low literate or limited English proficient adults, reading enrichment for the children of those adults, interactive, literacy-based, activities in which the parents and children learn together, and related library activities for the target families' participation. In addition, libraries may purchase materials to support family literacy activities and are encouraged to develop relationships with adult literacy agencies to provide reading enrichment and literacy activities. Libraries demonstrating formal cooperation with adult literacy provider agencies will receive increased consideration for funding in the competitive application review process. * will be an online application and must be submitted to the Secretary of State Illinois State Library Literacy Office in an electronic format. No paper copies will be accepted. The due date of the application is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010. INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPAL A software plug-in is required for access to tcConference, the webconferencing software from a company called Talking Communities that powers OPAL. The entry page to the Illinois State Library's OPAL room contains helpful information about the plug-in. A no-plugin-required web interface also is available for Mac, Linux, and MS users who cannot (or prefer not to) install the software plug-in. Please note, however, that not all OPAL features are available through the web interface. The presentation can be accessed from any computer with Internet capability and speakers or headphones. Staff at the Illinois State Library Literacy Office will present live. The presentation will be heard through headphones or speakers. Questions can be typed in during the presentation. What do I need? * To be connected to the Internet and have an Internet browser * To have speakers turned on or headphones to listen to the audio presentation * To be ready for the first online session, please connect to the online discussion room at the URL provided at least ten minutes in advance of the scheduled session. What do I do? * Click on or copy and paste the following URL: o * Using the mouse, click on "Click here to enter the room." * In the User Name box, type in your name (first name and your agency name) * Leave Password box blank * Click on "Log On" You will be placed into the OPAL conference room with Participant status.
